“Grayson or MacDonald Would 4 Toach Singing, Olivier, Shakespeare in Children's Education Utopia
: HOLLYWOOD, Sept. 25 (U. P.).—If all the school systems around ” the world wold get together and elect George Sidney world principal
the kids probably would never play hookey again.
Because he'd turn
all the classrooms into Saturday matinees. / Under the Sidney system, pupils, you'd go to school, sit at your desk, and watch movies all day long.
Kathryn Grayson or Jeannette MacDonald would give you singing fessons. Lawrence Olivier would teach you Shakespeare. And somebody like Bob Waterfleld would show you how to sling a forward pass. Needs Oomph Too Director Sidney, a roly-poly young man who turns out peppy movies like “Anchors Aweigh” and “Holiday in Mexico,” would like to get a little oomph in the school ‘pystem, too “I read just today where the Rus‘slans and Americans in Berlin pouldn't agree on a joint way to teach History,” Mr. Sidney said. “Too the Russians are going to go on giving it the Communistic slant. And we'll stick to our regular way. “And that’s . I don't see why the United Nal§dns can't appoint a committee to pervise education; then turn it into movies; and then] distribute objective textbooks in the| form of short films to every schoolhouse in the world.” Civil War in Technicolor Instead of three dry chapters covering the clvil war, Mr, Sidney’d like to film the whole thing—in technicolor. “That way the kids can see it and hear it at the same time,” he ex-
plained. “And you can be “And you can be darned

sure they'll remember a lot more about the battle of Bunker Hill than my generation does!” Besides, according to Mr. Sidney's plans, “the schools can have historical events on the classroom screens months after they happen— instead of the years and years it
| takes to get ‘em into textbooks.”
And think, he says, what he
could do with geography! “Now the Amazon is just a skinny little line on a map. But we could show ‘em the real thing, And the pyramids, And the capitals of the world.” Math In Movies
He's even got a way figured out to teach arithmetic. “Take those goshawful ‘If Farmer Jones had four cows’ things,” he said. “Well, we could show Farmer Jones, And his four cows. And have a voice explain the whole problem while they acted it out. Whatever in the world it was Farm-
ler Jones finally did with those cows.
I never did get the right answer.” Same way with science, Mr, Sidnep figures. “Take chemistry: “We. could show exactly what happens when you mix up those fancy concoctions. And it'd be a lot more interesting than any dry old lab sessions, can tell you.”

AT THE INDIANA—“Two Giiys from Milwaukee,” starring Dennis Morgan,. Jack Carson and Joan Leslie. Visiting Balkan potentate (Morgan), wandering incognito in New York, makes - friends with Brooklyn cabby (Carson). Pals paint town. Balkan encounters love interest (Miss Leslie). Evidently fastpaced film packs a lot of surprises before the comedy fade-out. Oh same bill is “Danger Woman,” with Brenda Joyce and Don Porter, AT LOEW'S—Double bill: “Suspense,” with Belita, Barry Sullivan, Bonita Granville and Albert Dekker, and “Boys’ Ranch,” starring Jackie (Butch) Jenkins, “Suspense,” which seems to contain a few sordid characters, involves jealousy, suspicion, attempted and successful murder, an ice show, a snowslide and sundry other ingredients. “Boys’ Ranch,” for contrast, concerns a scheme to rehabilitate juvenile delinquents by glving them their own ranch, AT THE LYRIC-“The Kid from
Brooklyn,” technicolor opus starring versatile Danny Kaye, moves over
