By EMMA RIVERS MILNER Times Church Editor Four festive days marking the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Holy Cross Catholic church will come to a climax with a solemn high mass of thanksgiving Sunday, Sept. 29, at 10:30 a. m. . The Rev. Fr. Ambrose J. Sullivan, pastor, will be the celebrant for the mass. The Most Rev. Joseph E. Ritter, archbishop - elect of St, Louis, will be present in the sanctuary. Archbishop Ritter's assistants will be the Rev. Fr. Urban Sonderman and the Rev. Fr. Victor Goosens. The Rev. Fr, Patrick Griffin will serve as arehpriest for the mass, the Rev. Fr. Henry Flasherty of Evansville, deacon, and thé Rev. Aloysius Duffy, sub-deacon. The Rev. James D. Moriarty who is assistant pastor, and the Rev. Fr. “| Francis Reeves will act as masters of ceremony. “welcome home dance” Thursday from 9 to 12 p. m. in the Holy Cross school hall. Other events in the same place are a card party Friday afternoon, a festival that night, and a children’s party with booths, fish .pond and games, Saturday afternoon. A history of the church in the form of a brochure will be distributed at the festival. It records that the first Holy Cross church was dedicated by the Most Rev. Francis Silas Chatard in 1896. The parish had béen formed by the Rev. Fr. William Quigley, an assistant priest at St. Patrick's church. It was succeeded by the present church in 1922, Instrumental in Building The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Joseph FPF. Byrnes was instrumental in building this edifice but lived only two years after its completion. He was followed in the pastorate by thre late Rt. Rev. Msgr. Willlam PF.
