Alexander Carr Began Career in Music Hall
HOLLYWOOD, Sept+20 (U, P.) ~~ Funeral services ‘were- pending today for Alexander Carr, 68-year-old Russian-born actor whose portrayal of Mawruss Perlmutter in the "Po-

Mr. Carr, who made his first ap- | pearance on the stage of a St. Paul, i Minn, music hall, died yesterday | at Cedars’ of Lebanon hospital. { In 1904, he began his climb to success when his imitation of David warfield as “The Music Master” in the play, “Wine, Women and Song” was a sensation at Chicago's Circle theater. After appearing in a series of stage successes in this country and England, Mr. Carr took his first Perlmutter role on Broadway in 1913. With George Sidney as his partner, Mr, Carr toured the world in the “Potash and Perlmutter” act and in 1924 came to Hollywood where he played Perlmutter and other movie comic parts. His last picture was in 1840, Surviving are a daughter, Beverly, New York, and a sister, Sonia Ross, | Los Angeles. i
