Good Society Produces Good Parents
By MRS. WALTER FERGUSON Seripps-Howard Staff Writer DR. GALLUP finds that eight out of 10 people favor parent guidance classes, many of which ‘are already going successfully. In San Francisco, where the plan was started, it has proved helpful. Anything that can awaken parents to a sense of their responsibility would be a good thing. Yet we've done so much talking on the subject and set so few good examples that today’s youngsters are doubtful of our virtuous intentions, And who can blame them? Parental guidance is important, but even it can't help unless we get rid of social customs which produce bad parents. Men and women as well as children are victims of their environment. ” » J A READER in Evansville relates an "incident which is a good illustration of my point. She writes that a high school principal of that city sent a letter to the football coaches suggesting that they encourage members of their teams to go to church. He said that young people need religion as well as football training.
