Fashion Press Sees-Work of 8 Californians

Paris to Review Part Of New Collections

Times Special LOS ANGELES, Sept. 19.—Ten years ago, eight little women who believed in themselves and the particular genius of California design banded together to become the Affiliated Fashionists. Last night, leis flown from Hawaii around their shoulders, they proved themselves before representatives of the fashion press of America. The ‘“girls"—and a long time, wasn't it, for so many to stick together? — were Louella Ballerino, Mabs of California, Agnes Barrett, Irene Bury, Viola Dimmitt, Peggy Hunt, Addie Masters and Marjorie Montgomery. _ Sequins on Swimsuits And what did they have, among themselves, to offer? Sequin encrusted bathing suits to retail from $79.50 to $100. (Fred Cole had advanced the idea. in oneplece numbers at his water ballet the night before, just to let you know that the idea is universal out here.) Long-sleeved bra tops for playsuits and slacks combinations, Patterned fabrics—stripes, horse and saddle, Zumi Indians, hibiscus prints: A great knowledge of the female human body, which by use of line and manipulation ‘of pattern, allowed the average woman to make the most of her assets. (Could it be the aquatie life around here that made them so knowledgeable?) Eight for Paris A collection of eight costumes, representing the talent of each woman in the group, that will be shown in Paris under the sponsorship of Mme. Karen, a Frenchwoman who have a knock-'em-out sense of humor, In this group were three casual dresses, including a wraparound; a bare midriff playdress in cotton; a dressmaker bathing suit; a midriff cotton dinner dress; a styled up raincoat in black nylon, and an antique lame evening wrap ensembled with a short black dinner dress. The eight gals, the fashion press decided, had done very well by their decade. Lady Eve's own figure came back into fashion Tuesday night. The

magnificently staged showing, held in «and around the pool -at the Huntington hotel-in Pasadena. The purveyors of the glad tidings were sea nymphs derived from the same sources as you and you and you. Which means, of course, that they had the lithe, lovely young bodies that are an American heritage—and to which Southern California dedicates its best playclothes. One-Piece Suits Favored Specifically, this return to our Mother Eve means that — at long last—we are to wear again divided bra tops, one-piece bathing suits, nd little skirted jobs that are feminine in the extreme. Fred N. Cole, who is.the top man at Cole of California, estimates that one-piece’ suits outrank the twopiece bra-and-short combination so popular these last years, two to one in the current resort collection. (And “resort” means what you and I will be wearing in the Midwest next summer, whether or not we ship southward come February.)
