Henreid Is Irked by ‘Frustrated Woman' HOLLYWOOD, Sept. 2 (U. P).—
Please, ladies, Paul Henreid pro-| tested today, don't-blame him if he's! not a great screen. lover—with a capital “L.” Blame the * ‘frustrated

His and every other red-blooded actor's in town, These days you can't Kiss a heroine on-the neck, Or the bare shoulder, Or behind her ear. Just on her face or lips.’ “And then you have to keep your mouth closed,” Mr. Henreid declared. “Of all the cold, unrealistic ways to make love!” It's not entirely the censor’s fault, either, he added, Blames ‘Stuffy Wives’
“It's the stuffy wives of the wealthy bankers and exhibitors,” he went on, “Their husbands control the money behind the movies and they control the husbands. They're frustrated because they've never been kissed that way.” So the wives tell the husbands they think it's shocking. Ahd the husbands tell the movie makers they ‘won't renew théir loans, And | the movies—with both eyes on their cash registers—bow down Ww the l wives,

And he'll bét anything (the younger gals around the country agree with him, Recalls Old ‘Stars “Think of the realy great lovers | of ‘the screen,” Henreid said. ‘Valentino, and John Gilbert, and John Barrymore. . When they played a {love scene they didn’t purse up their lips and peck the ladies. Not those boys! In those days you had passlonate romance on the screen.” But, thanks to the bankers’ wives, he grumbled, the great “lovers are gone forever. The style in this atomic age is to rough up your heart's desire, “Thé tough guys are "popular now,” Mr. Henreid sighed. “The ones who sock the ladies on the chin and then growl, “C'mere, kid!’ The powerful old guardians of public morals are horrified by tender passion. But they say never a word against the Bogart-type approach.” & Sees Two Results
As far as Henreid's concerned, this anti-kissing campaign can have | only two results: Either American [then are made to look like small- | time gangsters. As Gredtest Show on Earth
By HENRY BUTLER Last Memorial day 1 would have | said ‘Speedway is the greatest, show {on earth. Last night-up at the fairgrounds |T changed my mind. Reason _ for being there: The Vic» tory Revue of-1946, which is»a darn | good ‘acrobatic-musical-variety affair, incorporating a lot of stuff you seldom: *see elsewhere. The solidly-packed: grandstand liked it (Papa Cardova doing his blindfold somersault into a barrel edged with sharp knives). In tense, quiet moments you heard a barker calling “Peanuts!” or ap yelling, with a lot of meaning in the cry. But befter than the stage show,
‘which is well=lighted, well- -equipped

lywood-style white lashes. Get a] load of those Percherons, with care-{ fully-groomed, bleach-blond’ manes | and tails. : placement of all that some of the exhijbits....And it you] +dor’t think that’s something to see, go: back to your Accounts Receivable, You walk with 50,000 other eager | beavers through a three-room trailer home (ready for delivery). You pass a chilling exhibit of waterproof grave vaults. It's all better than a county fair (bigger and smarter and more fun),
world's fair (much too pompous).

They should have been. Sure, it would héve cost like funy, but with all Indiana industry working as cooperative sponsors, and with a couple” of nation-wide broadcasts (also costing like fury), the event would have .reached a tremendous audience. ” Last “night's big throng would have gone for Sevitzky's “Marriage of Figaro” Tech high season. As the Indianapolis, Opera theater's “Bitter Sweet” demonstrated this summer; that fairgrounds-set-up has plenty of possibilities. The Victory Revue will continue at thge fairgrounds ' through Thursday, :
