Joan Leslie Fails \To Stop Film Showing
| HOLLYWOOD, Aug. 27 (U. P.) — {Actress Joan Leslie's petition for
{dismissed today by Federal Judge Ben Harrison. Judge Harrison yesterday denied her petition for a permanent in|unetion restraining Warmer Brothers studios from distributing “Two {Guy ys om Milwaukee” unless she was bllled as a co-star. He also ended a temporary injunction granted last week. The judge said her suit should have named Warner Brothers Distributing Corp., which now has the film, rather than the movie studio. Miss Leslie sought the order in connection with a $2,725,000 damage suit against the studio complaining that her acting reputation was injured when she was lowered to a featured player, allegedly because she was successful in breaking her contract, Judge Harrison said the case would be assigned for jury trial and the amount of damages ascertained at that time.

By JACK GAVER o United Press Staff Correspondent NEW YORK, Aug. 27.—The capacity audience at the Cape playhouse, famous summer theater in got’ the surprise of its life last night when it was confronted with the actress described in the program as “Alexandre Dagmar, a Danish personality of wide experience.” : The play was “The Man in Possession” and its star was Gene Raymond, making his first stage ap-
L pearance after 17 years of Holly-
wood and the army air corps. The time was the beginning of the second act. A maid was on stage briefly, then entered the character named Crystal Wetherby, played by Miss Dagmar. There was a moment of complete silence, then e man in the audience exclaimed, “Oh» my Gawd!” It was Gertrude Lawrence. Happy at Success of Joke
An operative at the scene reported that the 535 spectators applauded more than a minute for the famous actress, whose husband, Richard Aldrich, is the operator of the summer playhouse. Miss Lawrence was happy at the success of her little joke and played as zestfully as though she were getting her customary four or five thousand dollars a week instead of the $46 equity minimum she will collect Saturday night. Concealing Miss Lawrence's identity until the last moment was one} of the best kept secrets of the peace. Technically there was no deception because her father was Danish and her full name is Gertrud (Sic) Alexandra Dagmar Klasen Lawrence. The idea originated with the actress. She made a starring appearance on the opening bill this summer, playing “Pygmalion.” She
ment at Butler university fleld .,.. \oyine in her latest movie was|desired to appear again, but the
schedule of plays and stars was complete. Furthermore, she wanted to appear without any fanfare. The only suitable role was the female lead in “The Man in Possession” and the scheme was hatched. No one outside of Cape Playhouse personnel knew about the plan, and

even some of those were in the dark antil two days ago. No outsiders were permitted at rehearsals and some members of the staff accepted the explanation that Miss Lawrence was simply helping the cast rehearse pending the arrival of Alexandra Dagmar on Sunday. Among prominent persons at the surprise party were Jeanette MacDonald, the singing actress who is Raymond's wife, Miss Lawrence will stay at the Aldrich home in Dennis during September, then return here for rehearsals of “Pygmalion” preparatory to a tour beginning in mid-October. She still doesn't know if she's going to be able to carry out her cherished plan of taking the play to London this season.
