“The FBI in Peace and War” returns to the air via CBS and WFBM | tonight at 7:30 after a summer lay-off from the cops-and-robbers business. The writers scan their newspapers for ideas and then put their fertile imaginations to work to produce one of the most popular whodunits on the air. Tonight, the fictional FBI looks into an election dispute in the story called “The Night Riders.” You'll be able to trace the inspiration if you've been keeping up on the news lately. » Hn » " 5 " { Stu Erwin has been on the stage so long that ’ - | some of my young readers may not know that he 3 " was once one of the leading comedy stars in Hollywood. Of course, you know he’s back on the air Thursday nights at 9:30 in “Phone Again, Finnegan.” He got into a comedy in Chicago a few years ago and they kept him on the stage so long he had to sneak out of the Windy City in a Brink's Express truck. Besides getting a few laughs, if you listen
tonight, you'll find that apartments are hard to get a | but money at Household Finance is easy to obtain. Stu Erwin { aN v8 |
“Suspense” again changes your hair from vertical to horizontal tonight at 7 with a story called “The Great Horrell.” Seems this Mr.
Horrell is a crystal gazer and is married to a little woman who brought |
along a chisel as a dowry. When Mrs, Horrell begins to step out, she wonders if her husband is keeping track of her meanderings with the little crystal ball. In a situation like that somebody is bound to get murdered—and you can keep chewing your nails until you learn who it is. Joan Lorring, the movie lovely, plays the part of the unfaithful wife. She was stuck in China during the war but is back for good | now. (Or, is she?) | 3 #'n y. & =n “The Dick Haymes Show” always has me guessing. During the summer months, Richard isn't on it, Seems like visiting Grant's Tomb | and finding Gen. Lee resting there. Anyway, Gordon Jenkins and his crew will be making good music on the half hour tonight beginning at 8. The Auto-Lite operetta will be “Skip To My Lou,” a tune known by every square-dancer. The Suitcase Six, swing group from the band, play “I've Got The Sun In The Morning.” Four Hits and A Miss vocalize our favorite, “For You.” Jenkins gives the one-finger treatment to “Paradise” while the entire group take a heavenly trip “Over The Rainbow.” That should be enough music for anyone—and good music, too.
s =» ” “8 8 Thursday night on CBS is mystery night, it seems. I've already pointed a bony forefinger at “Suspense” and “The FBI in Peace and War.” Now, it's time to waggle the digit at “Crime Photographer,” grooved in the same spine-tingling air channel. At 8:30 tonight, Casey clicks his shutter for the Anchor-Hocking folks who make glass. He'll help Capt. Logan of the Police Department put a few more culprits behind bars—iron, that is. And, Tony Marvin, the announcer, has
. been screen tested for the title role in “The Life of Rudolph Valenfino.”
No swooning over the commercials tonight, please, n ” ” ” » MORE PLASMA: “Mr. Keen, Tracer, of Lost Persons” will be in there tracing for Kolynos Tooth Paste at 6:30 tonight. But, he won't be looking for receding gums, Brother. He'll be using his wits to track down a guilty party and bring the sweet air of freedom to one falsely accused. . As they say down in Madison—situations like" this have interested me ever since I was a little Tot. Bennett Kilpack is Mr, Keen and Jim Kelly plays Clancy, his assistant. » » " » 2a One of our readers (probably THE one) wrote that Ned LeFevre, the former WFBM “Early Bird,” could be heard on “Masquerade” at 12:45 each noon over WMAQ, Chicago , . . Note to Speedy Ross at Bozell-Jacobs: Did you know that Phillip Ronda of your Chicago office is a cousin of Herb Vigran who plays “Sad Sack”? ” » " ” o ” If you like audience participation shows, you might want to check
: these off. CBS is presenting “Cinderella” each Monday, Wednesday
and Friday at 2 in the afternoon. A chick chosen, from the audience is giving all the trimmings of a fairy story—except it's real. And, at 3 each day, you can hear Art Linkletter and his “G-E House Party.” Tomorrow, after a week-long search, Art will present the “oldest twins" who have attended his broadcast this week. They'll be given an electric range—dividing it, I presume, into two burners each. Having neglected
should write to the chief of naval CONCES | NAIRE | personnel, navy department, Wash-
our sign-off for some weeks, we'll put it in here for the benefit of those
_ faithful readers who have written to ask about it—'so long, - nabors.”
