and immediately started increasing production to a large scale. Arriving in Indianapolis yesterday, Miss Barbieri was guest at a Sub-Deb style show in Ayres’ auditorium. Movies and back-to-school fashions highlighted the program, which was presented again this afternoon.

» n ” SMALL, TRIM and dark-haired, Miss Barbieri was graduated from Trinity college in Washington where she studied to be a Latin teacher. After tutoring some college freshmen she decided teaching was not for her and she took up fashion illustration. During the depression there was ‘much plodding through the streets with portfolio under arm—-that was the time when artists were a dime a dozen. But eight years ago the Young American Deb company wanted Miss Barbieri fo design evening gowns and that’s how her career in the style world started.

“BEST OF ALL I LIKE to receive fan mail from the teen-age girls,” Miss Barbieri says. “And even more than praise, I appreciate criticism. In that age of no inhibitions the girls speak freely, and I can slant my work toward their desires.” Miss Barbieri has appeared throughout the country as guest speaker and adviser for teen-age fashion sessions. She was a judge for the Scholastic magazine's design contest and also. spoke recently at the Brooklyn Industrial High School for Girls. Her creations are fitted on two | models—Andy and Mickey.
