The general level of wholesale food prices hit a ‘record high in the week ended Aug. 20, Dun & Bradstreet, Inc., reported today. The index for the latest week stood at an all-time peak of $5.34 against $5.30 in the previous week and $408 a year ago. In the preceding week the index had registered its first decline since May 21. Commodities advancing during the week were rye, coffee, beans, eggs, were shown for wheat, corn, oats, barley, butter, potatoes, hogs and lambs. The wholesale food price index represents the sum total of the price per pound of 31 foods in general use.
