Four-Day Disorders Called Moslem League 'Blackmail’ Against Independence Plan

By SEXSON E. HUMPHREYS Times Telegraph Editor

Began Four Days Ago The riots began four days ago during Moslem league demonstrations on “Direct Action day.” Although Moslem league leaders condemn the violence of the demonstrators, the riots actually constituted a form of blackmail by the Moslem league against recently announced plans to establish a united, independent India. The All-India Congress party of] Mohandas Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru, representing the overwhelming majority of the Indian people, oppose any division of India. Government List Prepared Mr. Nehru has been asked by Viscount Wavell, the British viceroy, to submit this week-end a list of names for an interim government to govern India during the transition from its present dependency to the status of independence. Yast week, Mr. Nehru offered Mr. Jinnah a share of the portfolios in the proposed government, Mr. Jinnah refused and the chief minister of Bengal, principal Moslem state, declared a public holiday last Friday to protest against the | pro sed government. Soviet Testing Believed Best Guess on Swarms of Rockets

"By WATSON DAVIS Director, Science Service WASHINGTON, Aug: 20.~—Mys-terious-rockets reported over Sweden during the past few weeks keep experts here guessing and speculating. Most of those best qualified to have opinions are in one way or another involved in rocket development here. The best. guess is that Soviet scientists, aided by Germans, have reactivated the famous Peenemunde rocket proving ground on the Baltic, now in the Soviet zone. This is where the testing and development of the V-1 and V-2 German rockets was done. During the war rockets otcasionally landed in Norway and Sweden by mistake during tests. There were no swarms of aerial objects such as now reported, but the Scandinavians were well aware of the activity of the Germans,

unlikely that many of them would be wasted in tests, It may be that the objects actually seen are daughter or granddaughter rockets. A large rocket would be launched and after it travels a considerable distance it would give birth to another smaller rocket which would continue in flight. This process might be repeated by the daughter rocket, producing a granddaughter rocket. Or one large rocket might produce a considerable number of daughter rockets in quick succession, forming a swarm. ; When ‘the flaming, flying objects were first reported, astronomers thought that they might be meteors
