Dollars Roll in as Citizens Buy Veteran a Home.

NEW: YORK, Aug. 15 (U..PJ— Johnny Chiefa, 30-year-old wounded veteran of world war II, lay on a bed in Bronx Veterans hospital today and fully realized that he may never walk again, But just the same, Mr. Chiefa was happy—a dream he has had since he was a little orphan boy is just about to come true. He took up watch repairing, because he figured he couldn't live on his pension alone. But the word got around Dublin lave, that Johnny, was back-—and that's when his friends went into {action,

Dollars Rolled in

One of his friends got his picture {printed in the Paterson newspaper. It seemed that everybody started chipping in for Johnny's future— especially for that home. The dollars rolled in. Soon, Mr. Chiefa was able to buy a lot. Then he got enough to buy materials, short and expensive as they are. Then Paterson's trade unions stepped into the picture. Carpenters, plumbers and brick masons prepared for work. | The first brick will be laid next | Monday, and they're even planning a fancy rose garden leading from the house to the garage. Mr, Chiefa intends to continue his watch repairing training, and go into busingss next spring. “It's a wonderful feeling,” Mr. Chiefa said. “Being an orphan isn’t
