Mr. Evatt is Australia’s chief delegate to the Paris peace conference and is acting spokesman for the 17 smaller nations participating in the parley. Dr. Ralph E. Cleland, chairman of the Patten: lecture committee said Mr. Evatt's lecture will be “sometime during the second semester.” : : This will be the ninth series of Patten lectures, made possible through a bequest to the university by the late William T. The safety board today approved a request for $7500 for new equipment in the fire department. . The board also approved promotion of six firemen and four policement, the resignation of two firemen and the suspension of two firemen. Firemen promoted were Lt. Ber-) nard Mann and Lt. Charles Bevis to captain, and pgivates first grade Charles Kersey and Charles Commons to lieutenant and Melvin Wilkerson and William Drisell to chauffeurs. Promoted Policemen Policemen promoted were Patrolmen Michael Grannon, Walter Houck and Sturgeon Davenport to investigators and Robert €. Wade to corporal. The board. approved the fire trial board decisions to . suspend Clifford Duffy and John Freels for 16 days. Duffy was charged with absence without leave and Fields with being under the influence of liquor while on duty. Resignation of firemen Glen T. Scot and Harry Whitinger were approved.

But today he was told he was the owner of a hardware store where he had worked as an employee for 16 years, The store, one of the largest and most prosperous hardware stores in the city, was given to Thomas by- its owner, C. N, Drescher, Michigan City. Ind, who ex~ plained, “I've had enough of the hardware business.” “My wife and I have all the money we need. Ray has made me plenty of money. He has worked faithfully and hard and he is the one to whom the business should go,” Drescher said.

ALLIES TO RETURN CROWN TO SULTAN

TOKYO, Aug. 15 (U, P.).—The first allied restoration of property recaptured from the Japaneie will be made tomorrow when a $35,000 diamond-studded gold crown is handed over to a Netherlands representative. The crown belonged to the sultan of Pontinak, Dutch Borneo. It will be presented to Lt. Gen. Schilling, chief of the Netherlands military mission, in a ceremony at the Imperial hotel. Gen. Schilling said the crown will be returned to the present sultan,
