A “miniature basement” designed to shave 10 per cent off the construction costs of the new house is one inventive architect's plan to beat the rapid rise of prices. in home-building. J Although midget-sized, the proposed basement is setually a compact utility heating room. Ac ing to its designer, Architect dolph Evans, the house is heat as adequately as a full basement | home at 10 per cent less cost. The house plan for the smaller- | scaled basement uses a concrete | pier-type foundation. Basement excavation is only to the frost giving, the architect says, the vantages of a sunken heating un unit cenerating heat below first floor levei without the expense of full basement construction. To keep the floors warm, furnace | heat circulates in an 18-inch space underneath the major floor area of the house.
