I've been reading the Hooper ratings again, and what I see tells me that Encore Theater rates even higher with Tuesday night listeners than “This Is My Best” which if replaced for the hot months. Encore is now one of the top three -shows--of Taesday, which naturally makes the Schenley Laboratory medicine man beat his tomtom. And the stock should continue to sell above r tonight at 8:30 because the theater is featuring one] Barrymore in “A Man to Remember.” Producer Bill Lawrence reached far back in the grab bag for this one, and pulled-out a prize yarn. It was ’. a movie about ten years ago that proved the surprise Lionel Barrymore of the year.

» » . » » . If you are a stoodunt of jazz as it was rit, you'll probably be stompin’ at 9 this peeyem. “Night Life” hits the ether with music that

jazzmen claim sits right next door to the barrel house from down New |

Orleans way. Eddie Condon, who helped move jazz from smoke-filled cellars to classic concert halls, will guest tonight along with Cab Calloway and Pear] Bailey. Willie Bryant and Teddie Wilson are the rest of the prominent citizens on the payroll ’ . 8 = 2 = = The love nest, which is called “Theater of Romance” goes way

back in the garden patch to do its play acting tonight at 7:30. They're | It was |

The “American Melody Hour” sells Bayer aspirin to the tune of romance at 6:30 this evening. Bob Hannon talks about love as though he thought it were here to stay with selections “To Each His Own.” “If You Were the Only Girl” and “I Don’t Know Enough About You.” Evelyn MacGregor sings “Someday You'll Want Me” in an upper register and then goes off daylight saving time long enough to warble “Why Does It Get Late So Early?” You'll also hear the Knightsbridge Chorus cavorting around “In the Valley of the Moon” and a couple of newcomers muttering “The Gypsy.”

It's a crime-ing shame the way the citizens of “Big Town” carry on. Tonight, for instance, a boy wanders into the Illustrated Press building at 7 peeyem trying to sell Steve Wilson a tip on a gangland murder. But murder ain't for sale as far as Steve is concerned. The tipster, however, gets to leave the studio early tonight because you'll find that his speaking part comes to a sudden end real quick like. As I understand it, the ‘whole thing begins when a couple of thugs put the wrong person on the spot and get only seven dollars for their trouble, Next time, the guy’'ll carry more cabbage around in his money belt, I

Arthur Godfrey Is still hunting talent tonight at 8 on “Arthur Godfrey’s Talent Scouts.” Arthur is heard daily at 10 ayem with all the little Godfreys, but when he hitches up his galluses tonight he'll give away money and a chance at the big time. Incidentally, for the past two weeks the palm reading machine caused Arthur to shell out extra dough because it-read two acts into a tie for the top spot. In the latest session, Helen Lee, singer from Alabama, tied with Raymond Chase and his concertina.

Tonight at 10:30 time will be set aside for you to wrinkle your brow in a thoughtful manner as a couple of authorities on the Orient climb upon the “People’s: Platform.” ' Harrison Foreman, journalist and author of “Report *from Red China,” will battle it out with Alfred Kohlberg, treasurer.of the American China Policy Association regarding just which eye America should use in squinting on the confusion in the Confucious gountry. a Aa» > * na - Kilocycling ‘into tomorrow, you'll find “Rhythm and Song” on the

SHOT HIT PROWLER

Because a prowler leaped in the air and whooped when he fired last night, Deputy Sheriff Paul Jones thinks one of his bullets found its target. Summoned to 3018 Bethel ave, the deputy spotted a man hiding|

in the back yard, commanded him to halt. The man fled and Deputy Jones shot three times. On the third shot, the prowler jumped and screamed, but kept on running.
