Blimp Which Aided. in First Tokyo Raid Is a Airport Here
Indianapolis residents today craned at the first lighter-than-air craft to float over the city in six years, It was the Goodyear blimp Ranger, which nosed into its mooring mast at Hoosier Parks airport late yesterday for a 10-day visit. This is the same ship that in navy service carried supplies to Lt. Gen. Doolittle's fliers preparatory to their Tokyo raid. It has been returned to civilian pursuits and will undergo a series of shakedown tests while here. The public will be permitted to inspect the dirigible from a safe
distance at the airport. : One of five blimps turned ‘over to the navy by the Goodyear com-
ing and antisubmarine warfare before being used for the Tokyo raid. At 9 and 11 o'clock each night|: while it is here, the Ranger will flash news bulletins from the sky by “means of 10-foot-high' neon letters. . The blimp is of the flexible type and is the smallest lighter-than-air craft in use today. It has a 150-foot-long envelope and a 23-foot | cabin.
