CAA Labs Will Be Used for Demonstration.

Dean Acheson, acting secretary of state in Washington, told Governor Gates today Indianapolis had been selected as the demonstration site for radio equipment being considered by the International Civil Aviation organization. . The city was chosen, Secretary AcHéson wrote, so American equipment makers could use the facilities of the CAA laboratories here In furthering the demonstrations. Governor Gates immediately replied that Indiana would be “happy to play host” for the demonstrations and would. offer all possible assistance to make them a success. Dates of the démonstrations will be Oct. 7 through Oct. 26. | Objective of the demonstrations, according to Secretary Acheson, will be “standardization of radio communication “and air navigation systems on a world-wide basis. The | two principal suppliers of such equipment, Great Britain and the United, States, will put on separate demonstrations in an effort to have | their equipment adopted as world | standard. The British demonstrations will take place at Montreal in Sep-| tember. The organization is made up of | 40 nations, representatives of which | will attend the demonstrations at | municipal airport in October.

EXCESSIVE CHARGES BY TAXICABS DROP

Excessive meter charges to taxicab patrons have dropped off sharply, the annual eity inspection of | taxi meters showed today. { The check showed 56 per cent of | the meters were accurate ‘the frst | time tested, the highest percentage | of accuracy in several years. Mrs. Maude G. Hobson, city| weights and measures supervisor, ! reported to the safety board that her department has sealed 370 meters. In their annual report to the state | weights and measures bureau, the | city department has sealed 21,654! pieces of equipment, made 1014] scale adjustments and condemned 542 pieces among more than 3000, business places visited. While investigating 106 compiaints| in the first six months the city de-| partment confiscated only 24 scales| and reweighed 31,000 purchased items. |
