'Gildersleeve' Is Divorced by Wife.
HOLLYWOOD, June 21 (U. P.).— Betty V. Peary, 34, who rushed home from a vacation to file for divorce after her husband announced his engagement to remarry, yesterday won her divorce from Harold Peary, “The Great Gildersleeve” of screen and radio. She charged extreme cruelty and said an out-of-court property settlement was being negotiated to give her half the community property and support for 10 years. Only Choral Groups Open to Professionals
Professional musicians may on pete in the 1946 Music festival only as members of choral groups. ’ This announcement was made today by the park and recreation department in outlining conditions of the forthcoming series of musical contests.
Choral directors and 20 per cent of the membership of each chorus may be professionals. All other competition during the three-day festival next ‘month, vocal and instrumental, will be limited to persons “whose principal means of livelihood is obtained from nonmusical work.” Preliminary July 15 The festival will open with a preliminary progrém July 15 at Broad Ripple for entrants from the north

Move to Prevent Contract Dispute
HOLLYWOOD, June 21 (U. P.).— Superior Judge Alfred Paonessa today considered a movie contract for Iowa-born Shirley Johns, 15, in which Metro Goldwyn studios stipulated she should not be allowed to cancel it when she reaches 21. The judge recently allowed Actress Joan Leslie to set aside the contract she entered into with Warner Bros. while still in her teens. Miss John’s contract called for weekly salary of $200 graduating to $1250. She was born on a farm near Ottumwa, Ia. attended high school at Long Beach and now lives in Santa Monica.
