Bible School-|!

Openings Set

in Churches Here.

Many local churches will open their doors to children Monday for annual vacation Bible schools.

Vacation schools in the thurches attempt to bring home to boys and girls the charm and interest of the Holy Bible through Bible stories and dramatizations. The Bible and regular experiences of worship in the church auditorium are stressed. It also is recognized that the children released from the daily public school routine are in need of

tion. Most of the schools convene at 9 or 9:30 a. m. and are dismissed at 11:30 a. m. Last for 10 Days

They usually are in session for 10 days or two weeks, and are climaxed with a formal closing and exhibition of handwork to which parents and friends are invited. Singing, supervised play, movies, trips to spots of interest in the city all have a place in the programs. Dr. U. 8. Clutton, founder of the first vacation Bible school in Indi-| anapolis in 1916, will conduct his school Monday through June 28. The Edwin Ray Methodist church and the Emmanuel Baptist church, which stand on opposite street corners, will co-operate in a school en-| rolling children and employing| leaders from both. A co-operative school also will be held in the University Park Christian church for its own children and those of the Capitol Avenue Methodist church

‘Garfield Amphitheater Plan - Protested Again.

Repeated protests by South side

of a $250,000 amphitheater in Gare fleld park today prompted park board commissioners to reconsider location of the project in Indianapolis, The latest blast against ‘the *“under-the-stars” theater came last night when more than 300 South side residents strongly protested against the construction in “Gare field or any other city park.” After the meeting, sponsored by the South Side Civie club, Paul V. Brown, park board director, stated {that “the city will have an amphi(theater, but not where it is not | desired by the community.”

Consider New Site

| Believing that Indianapolis wants additional recreation and cultural outdoor activities, Mr. Brown said that the board members will now determine whether to consider a new site to conform to desires “of | thousands who petitioned them to build the amphitheater at Garfield | park.” | In a unanimous vote, the resi- | dents opposed the project “in any| park,” objecting to the leasing of the proposed outdoor theater to theatrical booking agents. Mr. Brown reported he did not have an opportunity to present cards and petitions from approximately 450 persons desiring the new enterprise in Garfield park. Countering his “unpresented” petitions, Mrs. Alva Baxter, 2642 Manker st., presented an additional 475 property owners opposing the project. This brings to 1075 the number of persons objecting.
