New Medicine Is - Given * Through -Pills.

NEW YORK, June 7. (U, P,).— A report ons tests of a new drug, which brings relief to hay fever suffers and recovery in some instances, was published yesterday in the June issue of the bulletin of the New York academy of medicine. The report, based on studies by Drs, Alexander D. Ghiselin Jr., and | John D. Kernan of the Vanderbilt | clinic, said that a group of patients | treated by the new drug, known! as anthallan, 37 per cent showed complete recovery, 41 per cent] showed 70 to 99 per cent improve- | ment; 11 per cent showed 25 to 69 per cent improvement, and nine per cent showed less than 25 per cent improvement, The treatment, given orally through use of pills, continued over a three-week period and patients visited their physician only often enough to check progress of the drug's effects.

Attacks Cause

The new drug is said to differ from other medicines used in hay fever treatment in that it attacks the cause rather than the symptons and is given by the mouth rather than by injections. In some cases the report said, patients have shown improvement within a week, but the average period needed was estimated at three weeks. The new drug is-said to bring relief to patients who suffer the year around as well as in the hay fever season. It is sold only on a physician's direction. The new drug was discovered by Dr. W. S. Loewe, of the University of Utah.'
