Speedway Slticits today prepared to sift through suggestions for better traffic handling methods at the 1947 Memorial day classic, following a spetial meeting last night. Speedway “executives. met with city, county, state and Chamber of Commerce representatives to hear their recommendations for preventing the recurrence of the traffic jam that marred this year's event, Shaw Outlines Plans

Wilbur Shaw, Speedway president, told officials attending the banquet at the Indianapolis Ath-| letic club that Plans are now uader

along the east side of the track. This road is to be the main entrance and is expected to handle tlre ma jor portion of the traffic. TWO: Dispense with the “cowpaths” in the infield and lay out a new road plan, The system planned is a number of northsouth and east-west roads forming {a grill pattern in the infield. | THREE: Provide more | track-crossings and possibly

Shaw received a unanimous affirmative when he said, “We tried [to use 1810 methods to do a 1946 | job.” | County Help Pledged He said the Speedway office] {caught “hell” for several days after |the race from many who saw noth{ing but the tail-end of the race and | {some who saw nothing. | County Commissioner Bosson said he could offer no assurance that 30th street would be widened but asserted the county would do everything in its power to alleviate the traffic problems. Handling of the 40,000 train-rid-ing fans was considered completely successful. However; railroad offi-| cials are planning speedier service next year. Karl F. Emmanuel, general manager of the Peoria & Eastern railway, said his organization was planning to use nine-car trains in the 1947 event.

Train Plan Inadequate

W. N. McKitrick, of the Indianapolis Union Railway Co. argued against a suggestion by William H. Remy, president of the Board of Public Safety, that temporary arrangements be made for boarding trains at points other than the Union station, Mr. McKitrick did agree, however,

He also said that plans were underway to reconstruct the Emrichsville bridge on 16th st,

Maps to Be Published

Mr, Vogelgesang promised that [the new - highway would be completed by race-time r.ext year but said the new bridge would be under construction for a couple of years. William H. Book, vice president of the Chamber of Commerce, said the ‘chamber would publish maps | shewing all existing routes to the Speedway. The maps, he felt, would ald visiting race enthusiasts. They will be available to be mailed along with ticket orders for the race. Police department heads revealed that they ware studying this year's traffic problems and would do their utmost to move traffic smoothly next year. At the close of the session Mr. Shaw requested that another meeting be called before actual work pegins on streamlining the SpeedYway for 1947.

When you get the answer,* you'll notice that as the number of telephones goes up, the network needed to connect them becomes vastly more complex. Imagine the connections required for 1,200 telephones, or 12,000 telephones, or nearly 400,000 telephones in the Indiana Bell area! Perhaps this little puzzle can help you understand why telephone central office equipment, that takes the place of this. maze of inter-connecting wires, is
