REALLY, DOTTY1 DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT KIND OF FIGURE FOR THIS TYPE OF GARMENT //

At 9 tonight, “Great Moments in Music,” which last week won

an award for being one of the top musical shows on the air, is back again with just the kind of sharps and flats to make the award habit-forming. The sold half hour will be devoted to music-by George Gershwin, the Jad who taught American jazz how to be legitimate and still stay on speaking terms with the ice man. Some of the numbers to be heard include “Summertime,” “Love Walked In” and “I Got Plenty of

Nothin.”

Doing right by the musical scores will

be Natalie Bodanya, Jan Peerce, and Robert Weede —and about 10,000,000 listeners who will probably

be joining

in on the chorus,

Incidentally,

the

story goes that Gershwin, who was pretty pleased with himself and didn’t hide the fact, once asked Oscar Levant if he thought the Gershwin music

would be sung and played 100 years later. dripped when he countered with “It will be if YOU'RE around to!

plug it.”

JAN PEERCE

The acid on Levant's tongue

» » ” ” ” ” More in the way of major league music will be heard immediately after that at 9:30 on “Holiday For Music,” which features the unconventional arrangements of Dave Rose, on such favorites as “Embrace-

able You” and “Dancing In The Dark.”

Kitty Kallen

and Curt Massey

will be doing the guest vocalizing, and one of the really high spots in the entire-hoe-down will probably occur when Rose and his 45-piece orchestra let fly on his closing theme and own composition, “One Love.” Rose once had a fling at marriage with Martha Raye and later with Judy Garland. Just which one he was referring to in the song is not

clear.

» » n ” ” ” “Dr. Christian,” as usual, will have enough problems tonight at 7:30 to make Mr. Anthony seem like the carefree member of the

Happiness Boys,

The good doctor, Jean Hersholt, will appear in a play

writien - by Eileen Walzer, a gal from Brooklyn, entitled “The Love

Bug.”

It seems that cupid is responsible for a mosquito which almost

causes a tropical disease epidemic to be loosed on the little village

of “River's End.”

Mrs. Travis, who has been having a bit of trouble

with me of late, says that if mosquitosare In any way tied up with this love business -then it's no wonder that people go around. batting them all over the place.

» » ” ~ » n Back to music again, Bob ‘Crosby will be heard tonight at 8:30 on his weekly show. Bob is going highbrow long enough to present Lauritz Melchior, who does all right at his pastime of bouncing his booming voice off the four walls at the Metropolitan Opera Company. Melchior, by the way, is also very good at swapping amusing badinage— for what, I wasn't able to learn.

» n ” » » ~ “Ellery Queen” will be sporting some shapely help tonight at 6:30 when he master minds his way into a solution on.the mystery “The

Adventures of Mr. Warren's Profession.”

The well-rounded shoulder

at the wheel with Ellery will belong to Dorothy Dunn, Cincinnati, Ohio, who has been selected by Charm Magazine to edit its September issue. Just how such an authority as Miss Dunn can be much help in such a different field has not been clarified—unless, maybe, it is because the culprit has blue eyes on a Van Johnson background,

» » - ” » ” A sallie ho an entirely different musical alley reveals that the “Jack Smith Show” will present the Four Hits and A Miss at 6:15

tonight.

This jive group used fo blend notes with a total of six hits—

but evidently the Mexican League was in need of a couple of hitting

outfielders.

” ” ” » » ” » Mighty serious business will be the order of the day when Eileen Frederic steps before the mike tomorrow for her daily Ayres Show at

3:25. Ex-Governor Henry F. Shricker will be back for another confab

with Eileen and will discuss how we can help to sprinkle some crumbs into Europe's empty dinner pail. Mayor's Emergency Famine Relief Committee,

» ” ” » ” ” \ And that about des it for today. Don't forget the Sinatra Show

Mr. Schricker is’

treasurer of the

will be on at 8 tonight for the final tirhe this season. That reminds

Put your problems in a letter to Jane Jomdan who will answer column dally.

DEAR JANE JORDAN-I am in

love with a man 10 years older than | 18. |1 am. He acts as if he likes me, in

a way. He knows I love him and told some guy that he liked me but that I had big ideas. I did go out a lot with other boys, but since I met him I don't care to. He doesn't look as old as he really is and doesn’t act his age at all, All I really want is a chance to prove that I could make him happy. | I've been thinking of leaving the | state and try to forget him, but I doubt if I could. Do you think I ever could have a chance with him? G. J.B.

” o ” Answer: I haven't the slightest idea whether you have a chance with the man or not, The thing that makes me doubt it is that you
