my eyes. Say it was a’ lot of little things,” the pretty blonde moaned.
Rumors about why Darryl Zanuck, head of 20th Century-Fox, suspended shooting on “Forever Amber” have covered everything from a feud ‘between the 19-year-
John Stahl, who walked off the set, healthy enough to stand up under
Fie rigorous work,
\- Miss Cummins just let everybody talk. But rumors about her lack of sex really got her. And finally she agreed t5 be interviewed for the first time since all the confusion started.
Peggy Can't Explain We agreed with her "that she looked capable of bringing Kathleen Winsor's amorous heroine to
life on the screen. So what was the reason? “Would you believe it?” Miss Cummins declared, “if I told you/ I honestly don't know?" She was right in the middle o a scene, she said, when a bell|
in for a huddle. . “There was some discussion,” she added, “but not enough to give stopping the picture. Except, of studio’s usual high standard.” Which is a point of pride with | Mr. Zanuck. This time he saw he wasn't making the grade and stopped right in mid-stream.
idea. “It's better to find out now if I'm wrong for, the part,” she explained. “Or if the director was. Or if we could just do it "better if we tried again.” Since then the London beauty has been assigned to her third American movie. Without finishing the first. Or even starting the second. “Right “ after ‘Amber’ stopped they put me into ‘Bob, Son of Battle,’ ” she said. “A lot of people had a lot of unkind things to say. But I'll do whatever the studio wants me to.” A week or so later they yanked her out of that cast and popped her into “The Late George Apley,” opposite Ronald Coleman. And little Miss C. is delighted.
