». . NEW YORK, May 28 (U. P).— Promoter Jim Downing was in New York today conferring with Mike Jacobs about the possibilities of staging a world heavyweight title fight at Salt Lake City next year as a feature of the Utah céntennial. : Downing told reporters, “this centennial will be the biggest celebration in the history of the wild west—the Rocky mountain states. Utah is booming; and money will be ‘no object if we can_get Jacdhs to join hands with us. “The Utah centennial commission, of which Gus P. Backman is director, would be willing to guarantee a million and a half dollars for the champion to defend against
year. Even Mike Jacobs must admit that's a fine guarantee for a July fight anywhere.” . Big Jim, a former heavyweight sparring. partner of

the west's most successful promoters, explained that he was ap-
proaching Jacobs about ‘the fight at this early date for two reasons: (1) Jacobs is a man who “deals in futures,” and (2) if no “deal” can be made with Jacobs by July 1, steps must be taken to wrap up another . title fight “nearly as attractive” for next year. He did not amplify this statement. Meanwhile, Downing said he is negotiating for a welterweight contenders’ bout between Beau Jack of Augusta, Ga. and Nick Moran of Los Angeles to be staged at the Salt Lake fair grounds coliseum this year on Pioneer«day, July 24.
