THE INDIANAPOLIS TIMES’ Strike-Proof Coal Pile
A “coal pile” unlikely to be reduced by the miners’ strike is the Williamson, W. Va, Chamber of Commerce building, pictured above. Twenty feet wide, 18 feet high and 35 feet long, it is built of solid bbituminous coal—680tons of it. Coal operators and miners co-operated in erecting the building in 1933.

WASHINGTON, May 24 (U. P.).
—The current railroad strike is the first nationwide rail tleup since the Shopmen’s walkout in 1922. Other nationwide strikes: 1894—Began with a walkout of Pullman Co. workers and became industry-wide when members of the American Railway Employees Union, headed by Eugene V. Debs, struck in sympathy. 1876-77—Called by the operating unions. Sympathy walkouts subsequently were staged by most other unions affiliated with the Knights of Labor, predecessor of the American Federation of Labor. There have been other strikes in between but none was nation-wide.
