(Slip) Madigan, Dons of the All-America conference,

Bertelli had accepted a $1000 bonus to sign with the Dons and that the cancelled check stub was in the team's files to prove-it. Bertelli, who had an “understanding” with the Boston club before signing with the Dons, was in a class by himself as the first prominent gridder ‘to execute a “doublejump” as a result of his decision io

Collins announced yesterday that Bertelli had signed a four-year contract with the Yanks, reportedly at $20,000 a season. For his part, Bertelli explained the change of heart by saying that he wanted to “be near home.” He lives with his wife at Springfield, Mass. Bertelli, who was a unanimous All-American choice as captain of the 1943 Notre Dame eleven, was the first player drafted by the Yanks when they obtained their charter two years ago. He never had signed a contract, however, and after his discharge from the marine corps Tr he would cast his lot PRA | cx the new All-America circuit.

Across the dark screen of the oscilloscope a pulsing wave of light reveals a deeply hidden flaw that, undetected, might have developed into a time-wasting locomotive break-down.

Just as wartime radar pierced fog and darkness to pin-point a hidden enemy, so the supersonic reflectoscope points a finger of sound deep into solid steel to spot any concealed defect, assuring prompt replacement of the faulty piece.

Now being used experimentally in Illinois Central locomotive inspection, this new device gives promise.of being one of many war-born tools for sharpening the reliability, safety and speed of Illinois Central service . tools that are further evidence of our deterniined effort to provide you transportation second to none.

The Illinois Central intends to earn your continued natronage and friendship.
