Drop Races At Raceland
Dick Miller and Lou Moore canceled their planned 30-week program of midget racing at Raceland speedway after last night's races, the second run there this year. Lack of top-ranking cars and drivers, failure to provide close competition and failure of the drivers to “keep faith with the public” were advanced by Miller as the reasons for the closing. It wasn't a track managementrace driver disagreement that brought about the decision to terminate the proposed schedule, Miller said. He explained that the at|tendance has been record-breaking and that prize purses paid have been in line with an agreement requested by the drivers, Statement Issued
Miller's statement said: “Until the midget racing group | provides a sufficient number of high | class cars to guarantee close com- | petition in every event, Raceland | will remain idle. The track man- | agement wants only to keep faith with the public by presenting the best cars and drivers in the most thrilling races possible. Last night's races demonstrated this could not be done under existing conditions.” Miller also insisted: that Raceland refused to restrict the racing field to any one group and that open competition «vas the only policy of the present management. The fastest” qualifier last night was Ted Duncan who got around the fifth-mile at 15.57 seconds. The feature event, which was shortened t6 20 laps because the cars could not hold up under the grind, was |won by Duanne Carter. The time was 5 minutes 18.75 seconds. Other results were: 3-lap helmet dash, won by Carter; time 47.48} seconds: 10-lap elimination, Ted Duncan, time 2 minutes 38.58 seconds; 10-lap elimination, Tony Bete tenhausen, time, 2 minutes 44.38 seconds: 10-lap elimination, Mike O'Halloran, time 3 minutes 40.39 seconds.

By BERNARD HARMON
The initial no-hit game of the season in local amateur baseball ranks was registered in last night's Twilight league openingsby Joe Buergler of St. Roch’s, : Buergler turned in his masterpiece against Union Printers, his mates driving out seven safeties for a 6-0 victory. The winners scored once in the second, three times in the third, once in the fourth. and once in the sixth. The St. Roch's team, managed by “Lefty” Morrison, former Indianapolis Indian outfielder, entered the Twilight loop as the eighth team in time to have the contest declared an official league game. Morrison, played with his aggregation, banging out two hits to share hitting honors with Lou Buergler; Mallory Wins
P. R. Mallory took the measure of Kingan Reliables, 4-1, as Art Cooke limited the meatmen to five hits. The winfiers tagged Ochel Tuck for pine. It was the first game of the season for the Mallory team, Which has been rained out of “Manufacturers league openers on two occasions. The Eastsiders got off to a tworun lead in the second inning when Cooke smacked out a single with the bases lpaded. They crossed the plate again in the third when Gobby Williams connected for a single with two on. Their final run came in the fifth when Slo Yovanovich smacked a timely single.

The Meatmen tallied in the fourth, when Bill Wyss hit safely with two mates aboard. Cooke, Yovanovich and Williams were credited with two hits each.
Tires Shade Cleaners
. U. 8. Tires shaded Leonard Cleaners, 3-2, when Buck House tripled in the opening inning to send three mates across. Bob Schremser's triple, Jim Ballard’'s single and a fielder's choice gave the Cleaners their two runs in the third stanza. De Wolf News and Eagles Lodge played a 4-4 tie, darkness overtaking the two aggregations at the end of the seventh. Although Fred Ka=fader, on the mound for the Newsmen, limited his rivals to a pair of safeties, one of the bingles combined with three De Wolf errors, gave the Lodgemen a trio of runs and a 4-1 lead in the fifth. De Wolf scored in the sixth, but their seventh inning rally was choked after two runners had tallied. All games were seven-inning affairs,
