New 'E' Ration May Sooth G, I.

WASHINGTON, May 9 (U. P), ~The army quartermaster corps came up today with what it hopes is the answer to GI gripes about army combat field rations--a new “E" ration containing such foods as jam, fruit, hamburger and canned bread. The army said the new ration would contain heat tablets to be used for heating up the meat, The meat items would include canned chicken and vegetables, hamburgers, pork and rice, ham and lima beans or beef stew. The new “E” ration, now being tested by field troops; will provide over 3300 calories, somewhat less than the “C” ration and higher than the “K” ration used in world war II. The ration has an accessory package containing cigarets, matches, chewing gum, toilet paper, salt, heat- tablets, wooden spoons and -candy-coated tablets.
