Nuvolari Out Of 500,” Sends Substitute Pilot
Tazio Nuvolari, daredevil Italian {race driver, cabled Speedway offi- | cials today that he will be unable to come to this country to drive in the 500-mile Memorial day race. Nuvolari said the death of a son forced cancellation of the trip. He said that Achille Varzi, another well-known European driver, will pilot the Maserati Nuvolari originally intended to drive. _ Varzi is to sail tomorrow for New York on the steamship John Clarke. Meanwhile, it was announced that qualifying trials will begin Saturday, May 18, with speed runs permitted between 10 a.m, and 5:30 p. m. On the following day trials will be run between noon and 5:30 p. m, Qualifying hours will be the same on the following week-end.
