It has been raining here since + Monday and more rain was forecast for today. That also meant that Jobar may be declared but the rest of the fleld was expected to go. Those who didn't like the triple entry were going for Foxcatcher farms’ “Hampden and William Helis’ Rippey. Hampden, to be ridden by Bob Jessop, was four to one in the morning line while Rippey, winner of the Derby trial here Tuesday, was five to one. The closest to them was Spy Song at eight to one. A lot of people who believe in history repeating itself were going for Pellicle, Hal Price Headley’s 10-to-one shot. Pellicle was second in the Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland last week, finishing behind Lord Boswell. But no horse ever has come from winning the Blue Grass to take the Derby whereas the second- ' place Blue Grass finisher has won the run for the roses four times. * Four horses — Kendor,

By BERNARD HARMON With the amateur baseball season under way officially with the Manufacturer’s league games of this afternoon the cipal and. City loops are dy Jor their ners tomorrow afternoon. 3 The Municipal is made up of Kingan Reliables, Leonard Clean~ ers, DeWolf News and Roosevelt Pharmacy, holdovers season - and Armour Social club, Sachs Auto Parts, Broad Ripple A. C. and Pendleton reformatory, Kingan’s, 1944 city champions and 1945 Municipal leaders, appear. to have an edge on rival teams and should retain their league title. Fred Cato, one of the team’s vet- | erans, and a former minor league | player, has taken over the managerial duties and has lined up an aggregation that should prove much better than last year's pennant winner, Additions of Bill and Vic Wyss, just out of the army; Paul Bain, navy veteran, Babe Lawrie, former Indianapolis’ Indian, and Eddie Marcum of last year's BE. C. Atkins nine, has given the meatmen a snappy lineup. Good Mound Staff Ochell Tuck and Lefty McGill, 1945 pitchers, along with Bain and Marcum will give the team a classy mound staff, and if Jiggs Seal, Lowell Young and some of the team’s other fence busters live up to expectations, the Reliables will be the team to beat. : However, Larry Stippich and Bob Elliott, managers of the Leonard and DeWolf - aggregations, have different views on this subject as they present their 1946 lineups. Returned - veterans have added strength to the two teams and may be a big factor in putting them right in the midst of the summer's battle. Stippich has appointed Reb Russell, former Kingan manager, and for many years a Chicago White Sox star, as coach. He also has acquired the services of Bus Lin-

Elliott's DeWolf aggregation also shapes up as an improved team. He will have his two veteran pitchers, Bob Adler and Raleigh Miller, along with Fred “Kafader, former soldier, as his mound staff, Joe Hamill, former I-O leaguer, another army dischargee, will be the team’s No. 1 catcher.
