To Hold Convention Here For Three Days Next Week
Congregational - Christian Conference Will Hear Returned Chaplains.
The Indiana Conference of Congregational and Christian churches will present a group of returned chaplains as a highlight of the Thursday afternoon session of the annual convention in the First Congregational church, The conference will open Wednesday at 9:45 a. m. and hold its final session in the church Thursday afternoon. Thursday, night, the conference will unite in a meeting with the South Indiana synod of the Evangelical and Reformed church in
the Immanuel Evangelical and Re-
formed church, Prospect and New Jersey sts. Take Steps Toward Merger This combined session assumes significance since the Congrega-tional-Christian and the Evangelical and Reformed churches are taking steps toward a merger. The merger movement has been in progress for two years more and is expected to be voted upon by the two groups not later than. in 19848. The Rev. Evangelical and Reformed Synod Will Convene On Wednesday.
Representatives of 100 churches in southern’ Indiana, Kentucky, | penniessee,
Southern Indiana Synod of the Evangelical and Reformed church
next week. The sessions will open at 10:30 a. m, Wednesday and close Friday afternoon, in the Immanuel Evangelical and Reformed church. The synod will be hosts to the Indiana Conferente of the Congre-gational-Christian churches for a dinner and program Thursday night. The conference will be in session simultaneously in the First Congregational church.

The Rev. Marcus Johnson, pastor of the Congregational church, and the Rev. E. A. Piepenbrok, pastor of St. John's Evangelical and Reformed church, will serve as cochairman for the dinner. The Broadway Baptist church will mark the 17th anniversary of the pastorate of the Rev. R. M. Dodrill, with, a special service and reception Tuesday night. The Rev. Bob Jones Jr., president of Bob Jones college, Cleveland, Tenn, youthful educator and radio speaker, will give the address. Music for ‘the entire evening will be arranged by, Walter Bruce. The enrollment of Broadway church, which was 406 when the Rev. Mr. Dodrill assumed its ministry, now totals 2531. The Sunday attendance has increased from an average of 150 to 840 over the period.
