Mark W, Pickell, executive secretary of the Corn Belt Livestock Feeders association, added, how-' ever, that congress could reverse the | trend by dropping price controls and subsidies on meat. In a statement prepared for the senate banking committee, Mr, Pickell - said. shipments of feeder steers to . market during the first three weeks of April were only 66 per cent of the shipments during the same period last year. “It will continue to get worse and worse unless you gentlemen dp something about it,” he said. He urged adoption of the housepassed OPA amendment to remove price controls when production of a commodity reaches the 1941 level. Pass this amendment, he told the committee, and then “tell the housewife that while it will be very dif-/ ficult for her to get meat this sum= | mer, she can have an ample supply | of meat at a price she can afford | by fall.” The committee is considering whether to extend OPA beyond its’ present June 30 expiration date.
