RELIGIOUS CLASS TO OPEN THURSDAY

The Catholic Information bureau announces the opening of a new class of instruction in the “Catholic Religion” Thursday at 8 p. m. in the reading room, Capitol ave. and Georgia st. The class is open to all interested persons without charge. The new series will continue at the same hour on Thursday through July 18. In addition to the public classes, the bureau provides individ instruction for those who cannot attend on Thursdays. Appointments for personal instruction are made: by calling RI. 3877. Festive Service Planned to Observe Liquidation of Debt

By EMMA RIVERS MILNER Times Church Editor The Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran church will mark its silver anniversary and the liquidation of its debt in festive services tomorrow. Dr. H. E. Turney, president of the Indiana United Brethren synod, will speak at the morning worship service at 10:45 and again at the 2:30 p. m. home-coming and service noting the mortage cancelling. The Rev. R. L. Secrist, president of the Tuxedo Council of . Churches, and the Rev. D, E. Elder, president of the Marion county division of the National Lutheran Council of Churches, also will give talks in the afternoon. Harry A. Stevens, treasurer of the church council; members of the congregation and the pastor, Dr. John 8. Albert, will be in charge. Special Music Special music will be given by Miss Josephine Bailey, organist, and the choir under the direction + lof Mrs. Lenola Bailey. Soloists to be heard are Miss Bette Myers, Robert Knight and Fred Vogel. Dinner will be served to guests making reservations and a photograph of the congregation, taken outside the church. Twenty-two men and women met in 1021 in a storeroom at #917 E.

NEW CATHOLIC YEAR BOOK IS PUBLISHED

The lay membership of the Catholic Archdiocese of Indianapolis numbers 104,913 according to figures released in the new year book. The year book is prepared and edited under the personal supervision of the Rt. Rev. Msgr, Henry PF. Dugan, chancelor of the archdiocese, During the past year, 2010 infants and 703 adults were baptized. - A total of 1103 marriage ceremonies were performed. In 627 cases, both the contracting parties. were Catholics and in 476 only one was a Catholic. Due to the war, the book records, no new parishes were established and no churches dedicated since
