‘French Try to Scope of Australjart Plan.
NEW YORK, “April 25 (U. P.).— The Australian plan for a United Nations investigation of Franco Spain collided today with a surprise French effort to restrict the scope of such. an inquiry. tigating committee here andy specifically; out of France ‘to two factors: : ONE: The presence of ‘thousands of Spanish republicans in southern France. TWO: The fear that the French government might be embarrassed by the pressure tactics of Lefist French parties on the committee. It was French Leftist parties which forced the government last December to seek British and | American support for arraigning Franco before the council. The U. 8S. and Britain rejected the plan and eventually France let Poland carry the issue to the council, The ‘Australian - delegation declined to comment on the French
proposal. Australia probably can count on American and British support. Both of those govern-
