To $20, 000
By EDDIE ASH Times Sports Editor There's going to be an unscheduled reunion at Victory field Sun. day when the Cincinnati Reds in-
vade to meet the Indianapolis Ine dians in an exhibition attraction, Master mind of the Reds is Bill McKechnie, and in the stands will be Bennie Kauff, who used to belt the cover off the horsehide as a teammate of McKechnie with the old champion Indianapolis Federal league club. McKechnie was the Hoofeds' fancy third sacker in 1914 and Kauff was the team’s slugging center fielder, The local “outlaws” had a team made up of fence busters and they beat the Chicago Feds to the pennant wire in a rugged finish, Joe Tinker’s Chicago club was & heavy pennant favorite around the league, except in Indianapolis, of course, and the husky Hoofeds came through with colors flying in the big clutch by beating Chicago on its home grounds as well as here, ’ Pilfered 76 Bases Kauff, at 22, was the loop's Ty Cobb. He topped the league in patting that season with a mark of, 366 and stole 76 bases. Muscular Bennie was a long ball hitter as well as a lifle-drive specialist. His outfield mates were Vince Campbell and Ed Roush, regulars, and Al Kaiser and Al Scheer, utility. Only light hitters on the team were Jimmy Esmond, shortstop, and

RICHMOND, Va., April 11 (U. P.). ~The Cleveland Indians, who need a “Babe Ruth” to go with their Bob Feller, wondered today if they didn’t have a reasonable facsimile in the person of fat Pat Seerey, Beerey, who packs 200 pounds on a five-foot 10-inch frame, is built a little along the lines of Ruth and at times he hits like him, Like Ruth, the pudgy pelter from Wil» burton, Okla., has a tendency to strike out frequently, even though he hits for the distance occasionally. Last season he led the league in strikeouts with 97, even though he also hit 14 home runs to compensate in part. He delivered his most telling blow yesterday, a four-run homer off the Giants’ rookie pitcher, Monte Kennedy, giving the Indians a 6 to 4 victory.
OKLAHOMA CITY, April 11 (U, P.).—Pitcher John Grodzicki, the Cardinal “comeback kid,” was successfully past his first hurdle today but the harder ones were still ahead. Grodzicki proved to himself and Bt. Louis Manager Eddie Dyer that he had the stuff to go a short distance yesterday when he worked four effective innings in an 8-to-1 victory over Oklahoma City of the Texas league. The youngster, who suffered leg wounds in the battle for Germany, showed fine speed and

the Fox-Hunt alleys. The Indianapolis league enjoyed one of its best seoring sessions of the season at the Pritchett alleys. Al Weevie was top soloist with 206, 210, 257-673, while Freddie Schleimer, the loop’s popular secretary, came through with the best single game of the season in that league. Has ‘10 Strikes
Schleimer had a string of 10 strikes in his finale, but left the seven-pin on a “Brooklyn hit” on
{ [his 11th delivery to halt at 289.
Openers of 170 and 198 gave him a 657 total, and when he and Weevie combined their heavy pinnage, it proved a big help in giving Fehr's | X-L Beer a 3080, that included the top single game of the season in local laegue competition. The Beerman opened with 930, stepped up to 1002 and then connected for the record game, an 1139. The former high mark of 1126 was rolled in the Sport Bowl Recreation league Jan, 11, The Marott Shoe quintet also passed the 3000 mark in its Indianapolis league series,
