PS COST OF MEN'S CLOTHES
ficial Urges res. Reduction in Women’s Wear. WASHINGTON, April 11 (U, P).

o pay $75 for a suit of clothes is hat too much material is going ato the production of women’s lothing. His goal is to get each veteran wo suits for $75-—one for work and ne for dress. Mr. Erskine, a veteran of Iwo ima, is now head of the retraining nd re-employment administration f the department of labor. He utlined his program for increasing he supply of men's suits at a 1eeting yesterday in the office of teconversion Director John W. nyder. Representatives of the Civilian roduction Administration, the OPA, 1e Veterans Administration and 1e Labor Department attended. Mr. Erskine said normally 60 per :nt of woolen suiting goes into ien’s clothing and 40 per cent into omen’s clothes. Appreciate Profit Motive He emphasized he didn't favor ludgeoning industry into largeale production of millions of low%t men’s suits, “Any solution to the problem ust be squared with industry,” he id reporters. “You can't expect en to produce at a loss.” Mr. Erskine sald some sobering wts were discussed at the meetig. CPA reported it channelled aough wool cloth to manufactur's during the first three months { the year for production of 500,000 suits costing less than $35 ach. But, it said, a check-up reealed only 1,500,000 such suits were roduced. At the present rate of roduction only 6,000,000 low-cost its will be produced this year.
