The Housewife Is Blamed For Shortages
‘Manufacturers Are _ Hoarders, Too’
'

Verver of the Civilian Production administration, are the worst hoarders in the country and responsible for most of the shortages from nylons up. :
{that many manufacturers have | been hoarding, too, and that their {grabbing is on a bigger scale, But jin contrast to our bad behavior, Mr. | Verver pointed out, men in general {have taken their short shortages | with unconcern. | Any honest woman is forced to |admit the hoarding charges. While {it is unfair to label all homemakers as hoarders, it is certainly true that we have created most of the shortages from which American homes have suffered. » w . BUT WOMEN who stand in line for nylons should not be classified in the lowest ethical brackets. There's another type who deserves | {more criticism. She's the sheltered | lady with a husband or boy friend who has a pull. And through him she gets her nylons without effort on her part. And often many more | {than she needs.
The housewife, however, is merely a product of her time. When the | war began the armed forces hoarded | supplies. Industrialists hoarded | manpower. If reports are - true,
now are hoarding merchandise, waiting for higher prices. The whole thing adds up to a disgraceful exhibition on the part of a good many otherwise respectable Americans, The selfish housewife scrambling for soap, butter and stockings and
