“Two Chocolate Coming Up!”
“And it seems,” Elsie says, ‘that people never stop asking for mare and. more Borden's chocolate ice cream. Maybe that's because it's so rich... so smooth . . . with just that right old-fashioned chocolate flavor!’ Of course there's other flavors, too. Ask for Borden's ice creom . . . in sodas and sundaes, or in carry-home packages, at your nearest Borden dealer.

EGYPT LAND OF
Foreigners Is Growing. © By PAUL GHALI
Times Foreign Correspondent
ALEXANDRIA, Egypt, March 28.
we sipped coffee on the terrace of the aristocratic Mohammed Ali# club, “I see no change whatever,” I retorted. “Surely, you don’t mean to say that you fail to notice the way Egyptians in' the | stréets look at use foreigners these days,” pursued my Mr. friend,
Ghali Constantine, whose family has been in Egypt a good 80 years. | From then on our conversation went like this:
The Writer: This is not new. After all, you do not expect these poor, barefooted devils to regard your respendent car and prosperous appearance without envy—especially when they know very well that all of your money has been made out of their country. Friend: They well realize that the social status in this -country is unfair and want something done about it. The Writer: -. And how do they | present their claims? | Friend: By sending petitions to parliament, organizing workers’ unions and occasionally demonstrating in the streets. The Writer: This seems pretty | <easonable. In ‘many European | countries where peasants get far {| more than 6 piasters a day (about {25 cents) and workers get more | than 25 plasters (just about $1) the | little guys take more drastic steps. Friend: They might do it in this | country one day. : | | The Writer: And what are you doing to prevent it? Friend: We give as much money ‘as we can to Egyptian funds and| hospitals and when Egyptian workers get old we send them home with a decent sum. The Writer: Surely the problems | call for broader solutions. In my | days in Egypt about 80 per cent of| the soil was the property of a few! | hundred thousand individuals, | { while the rest of the population had nothing. ; | Friend: This is the Egyptian government’s problem, not ours. The writer: And what is the Egyptian government doing? Friend: My good friend Mahmud Pasha, who is most influential, tells | me that the government is seriously studying a plan whereby 1,000,000 arid acres would be irrigated, drained and given to the Iehaheon) (peasants). The writer: This is not new either, My father’s father, in his day, spoke of this wonderful scheme and his ‘father's father, . in making a government survey of Egypt, laid the basis for it. Incidentally, is your friend Mahmud Pasha's 5000-acre estate not situated in the very region to which the abundant water and | draining is promised? Did T not hear that you, too, had bought land | there recently? Friend (uneasily): Yes. The writer: So, you see, nothing has really changed in Egypt in all} these years. { | Friend: You are a skeptic, aren't you? The writer: Maybe.
