County ‘commissioners yesterday took the first step toward a bond issue of $242,000 for the purchase of 180 new voting machines for the November election. They began circulating & petition among property owners for approval under a law that requires the signature of at least 50 taxpayers before bond issue proceedings can be started. Commissioners said 167 of the county's present voting machines are obsolete and worn out to the extent that most of them do not register vote totals properly because of defective mechanical parts.
