Riverside Group Protests -Tinder’s “ Dismissal.- - Riverside golf club members charged today that ‘ “personalities and politics” were responsible for the recent dismissal of Robert Tinder as golf professional and the subsequent hiring of Wally Nelson at the municipal course. Petitions registering opposition to the “synmary dismissal” of Mr. Tinder will be presented to the park board within the next week, The Times was told. The petitions are expected to carry some 300 sigs natures. The petitions read in part: “If there is any reason for Mr. Tinder’s dismissal other than a matter of personalities or politics, we feel that the club and some of its most frequent patrons should know what those reasons are.” Tinder Not Notified Club members pointed out that although Mr, Nelson was appointed by the park board more than a week ago, Mr, Tinder, who is in Florida, still is unaware that he
has Been replaced. They also said they understood that other municipal clubs were consulted by the Park Board before a professional was appointed. They said they were not consulted and that they knew ntohing of the change until the Park board had reached its decision, _ Mr. Tinder, formerly professional at the Anderson country club, took the Riverside post two years ago. Membership Increased Members pointed out that when Mr, Tinder camé to Riverside, there were only 26 members, The membership now stands at 131, and members attribute much of the increase to Mr. Tinder. They maintain that Mr. Tinder is the first pro at the course to promote golf exhibitions and that in spite of wartime restrictions he has kept a full stock of golf equipment. At the present time Mr, Tinder reportedly has several thousand dol-
