Veterans Are Pared by
Readjustment Allowances|
WASHINGTON, = March 22 Veterans have sent in the following questions on their readjustment allowances: Q—What is the first step a vet-
+leran has to take in applying for
his readjustment allowance? A—Application must be made at the local office of the United States Employment ‘Service. Be sure to take your discharge papers.. The discharge must be other than dishonorable, if you are to gnalify. Q—I am married, and have three children. I have been notified I will be laid off from work soon, and my prospects aren't good for getting something else right away. As a veteran of world war II, how much unemployment compensation will I receive from the government?, A—The maximum you can get is $20 per week. You can get eight weeks of allowances for the first three nths of active service, and four ks. for. each. additional month served after Sept. 16, 1940,
up to a total of 52 wéeks. Q-—For a while, I was in the student training program of the army. Then I served two months in the infantry. Am I eligible for a weekly readjustment allowance if I lose my job? A--No, not unless you were discharged with a ° service-connected disability. QI have been trying fo get started in the radio repair business since being discharged from the army, But sickness and several other things have come up to interrupt. my work, and I haven't made very much money, My wife tells me I should apply for veterans’ unemployment benefits. Can I qualify? A—If your . discharge is other than dishonorable, you qualify in other respects, and you don’t make $100 a month, you are eligible to apply for the readjustment allowance,
