Mr. Sidney said he was afraid to do it. M. G. M. might find out they could get along without him. But he did spend three hours telling the gentlemen what was wrong with

By JACK GAVER United Press Staft Correspondent NEW YORK, March 19.—Thirtyone pairs of female legs, presumably of hubba-hubba calibre, will be on the gold standard in the movie to be made of that famous boudoir brochure “Forever Amber.” The legs will be encased in gold mesh hese costing approximately $1200 per -palr. Willy De Mond, hosiery expert, is in New York now, arranging for the gold thread which will be used in the hosiery for one scene of the technicolor picture. The stockings, of opera length, will be worn by Peggy Cummins, the British actress, who is going to play Amber, and 30 chorus beauties. “Each strand of cotton thread

used is saturated with molten 14karat gold,” Willy explained. “It isn't the sort of thing that is turned out every day and I had to do a lot of research to find out how it was done with a spinning wheel process in the old days.” Willy estimates that thére will be about seven ounces of gold, at $39 an ounce, in each pair of stockings. He'll take the thread back fo his Hollywood plant where the hose will be made, each pair custombuilt to the girl who will wear it. The feet of the stockings will be made of silk. The whole process will require about . five weeks, The average length of the stockings will be 47 inches.
