Indians’ Pilot Prepares Cut

In Big Squad

DELAND, Fla, March 15.—After

[| playing intra-squad practice games today and tomorrow, Manager Bill Burwell of the Indianapolis Indians will sharpen his pruning knife and go to work next week on “slenderizing” his large spring training

squad. A few of the rookies probably will be released outright while others who are still short of Class Triple-A experience are to be sent to little minor clubs in the Boston-Indian-apolis-Hartford farm system. The intra-squad contest scheduled yesterday was washed out by rain and the Tribe pastimers were only able to get in about one hour of fielding and batting drill. Following routine practice at the DeLand park today, the veteran members of the squad were to receive a rest while the newcomers engaged in the intra-camp game. The vets were to be excused after the morning hitting and fielding workout. The Tribe squad is loaded with rookies and Manager Burwell is longing for the time when the Boston Braves pare their huge squad at Pt. Lauderdale, Fla., and ship some seasoned talent to the Hoosier Redskins. Latest rookies reporting here are Okie Blankenship and Jake Shirk, catchers; Walter Blydell, pitcher,
