panied by a lot of good song-and-dance material, including two ‘strikingly original ballet numbers by Garrett Cope and James Mentzer. Mr. Cope, reportedly formerly associated with the Chicago Opera ballet, does a kind of Paul Draper ballet-tap routine with, however, great independence in style and execution. He has a lot of talent, Mr. Mentzer's “Balinese” dance drew a lot of appreciative, not derisive, laughter. For the dance, whether intentionally or not, struck the audience as a marvelously subtle parody, not only of oriental dancing, but also of people's attitudes towards oriental dancing. Audience Laughed

I would say that Mr, Mentzer has possibilities of doing for ballet what Victor Borge does for plano-play-ing. For, like Borge, Mr. Mentzer contrives to make you think of a lot of things at the same time, It takes a great deal of talent to remind people indirectly of their own snobbish-arty enthusiasms. | Last night's audience laughed, | not at Mr, Mentzer, but at the Na~tional Geographic magazine and the great Ball boom of some years back, There were no curtain calls or| encores, which may be a good idea. | i
