‘Because of Him' Cast Is

Odd Combination.

Every io otten Hollywood films |

. “Because of Him,” which opened yesterday at the Indiana, has Deanna Durbin, Franchot Tone and Charles Laughton, an unusual trio. The film, pleasant enough, concerns a ham actor (Mr. Laughton), a playwright (Mr. Toné) and a waitress with stage ambitions (Miss Durbin). By a little finagling with a Phony letter of introduction, Miss manages to get a try-out 3% Dhartin (surprise of surprises) eventually suc-

ese. Sonon in this offering go to Mr. Laughton. As critics have already observed, it takes a first-rate actor to portray an egotistical ham. And Mr, Laughton has few equals as an actor. Miss Durbin singe three songs in her usual clear and pleasing voice. The music and the theatrical background, perennially fascinating to a lot of people, make the picture pretty good entertalfiment.—H.B.
