On Keith's Stage
Comedy is the keynote of Keith's vaudeville this week as six acts go through their paces for the paying customers, ! Budd and Hollis give forth with some banjo and singing followed by Vocalist Ann Sutter who has the audience practically singing with ‘her, Walkey and Dare go through a tumbling routine. and late in the show the Three Arnolds put on a balancing act which is among the best in the country for nonchalance. Anthony and Rogers are straight comedy as is Impersonator Shavo Sherman, but the others add more than a bit to tickling the funny bone. The movie is “Road to Alcatraz.”

Duo Pianists Are e Praised
Work of Whittemore and Lowe Delights Audience.
Arthur Whittemore and Jack Lowe have probably played in more satisfactory halls. than the English theater was yesterday morning. First, a large part of the audience arrived late and took a while to quiet down.
Whispering and rustling went on throughout - the program. Every now and then a door banged somewhere, and there was a prodigiously noisy exhaust fan going somewhere outside the left exits. English Manager Vincent Burke finally got that shut off. To make everyone happier, the air smelled as if the furnace needed a large clinker taken out of if. Excellent Performance But the two planists gave an excellent performance in the difficult art of duo playing. It's much harder than people realize to get precise attacks and to control nuance and rubato on two pianos. Without split-second timing, attacks get muddled. Whittemore and Lowe have developed extraordinary unanimity. Both splendid musicians, they play such things as their own transcription of Schubert's B flat sonata with impresisve understanding of its lyric qualities. Coronation Scene
* The time element prevented them from playing the Brahms-Haydn variations yesterday. Instead, they substituted their arrangement of seven of the Brahm'’s waltzes, a regrettable necessity, since the Brahms waltzes have a tendency to sound somewhat redundant on two pianos. One of their best encores yes-
. (terday was the -great Coronation
scene from Moussorgsky's “Boris Godunov,” a grand piece for twopiano treatment. “They played some of the populars

up their reputation. In a final group, they included the compositions most often requested by G.

CALLS ON FARMERS | TO RAISE MORE FOOD
WASHINGTON, Feb. 23 ~The nation’s farmers and home gardeners turned today to the job of producing more food so that hungry millions overseas can be fed. Secretary of Agriculture Clinton P. Anderson called on farmers to plant 2,000,000 more acres of wheat and corn this year and to step up their production of soy beans and dry edible beans. This, he said, would “further conv fe tribute to the critical worldwide need for food.” At the same time, President Truman urged private citizens to continue their wartime victory gardens again this year as their contribution to bigger national food stockpiles:
