Champs, F Foner Champs and Other Tenpin Stars to Appear
In Action Over
the Week-End
Basketball won't be the only sport parading its elite over the weekend, for right here in Indianapolis practically every bowling star will be in action as the annual men and women’s city pin tournaments
is resumed.
Champions, past champions, and a host of would-be champions will take their whirl at the maples, the men at the Delaware and Illinois
alleys and the women at Sport Bowl The top Suiurday attraction will be the. appearance of last year’s champion five-man aggregation, captained by Fred Schleimer, popular secretary of the Indianapolis and Fox-Hunt Classic loops. Schleimer’s, aggregation, Fehrs X-L Beer, won last year's event under another sponsorship, posting a 2078 to take the title. Their 1946 appearance is scheduled at 9 p. m. tomorrow at the Delaware, site of the team events, Heavy Action Sunday If the Fehr five fails to unseat Marott 8hoes, who lead at present with 2891, there will be plenty of topnotchers going .after the crown Sunday night, when the Indianap-olis-Fox-Hunt Classic squad takes over the alleys on the 8:30 shift. Larry Fox's Bowes Sealfast, win ners of two previous city titles; Wilbur Richwine’s Cook’s Goldblume, another two-time winner, and Charley Cray’'s Barbasol, a former champion, are among 16 quints who will be gunning for the Shoemen on the special squad. Several other special squads are included on the week-end program. The Construction league will take over tomorrow's 6:30 shift, while on Sunday the Eli Lilly squad at 3:30 p. m. and the Commercial league squad at 6 p. m. will precede the star-studded 8:30 squad. The top Sabbath activities in the men’s event will shift to the Illinois alleys, where several star performers are carded to take their turn in the doubles and singles. Members of the Fehr team will be among those firing at 1179 of Sim Woodall and Homer Minnick, leaders in the championship dou-
bles, and Buck Baurley, who heads the actual singles scoring with 631. Feminine Champs Three of last year's women's champions will be defending their crowns on the 7 and 8 o'clock shifts at Sport Bowl Sunday night. Last year's top doubles combination, Genie Drexler and Dorothy Berkopes, are scheduled at 7, while Bernis, Thorpe, defending singles
in the individual event at 8.
A steady stream of leading feminine pastimers will traverse the
the opening Sunday squad goes on at 11 a. m. until the final shift moves across at 10 p. m. If anyore is to topple Vivian Parsons and Mickey Rotert from their doubles lead and Gertrude Bradley from the top spot in the singles, it should be one of the Sunday performers. The doubles leaders have 1046 and Mrs. Bradley a 573 for
& Oil leads in the team event with a 2600. League Sessions
Scoring was again light in last night’s league sessions, Arna Elstrod’s initial 600-series of the season being the best performance registered. Rolling with MaddenCopple of the Bowes Sealfast. loop at West Side she had 236, 181, 136603. It was the fourth 600-series of the season in the Sealfast circuit and the 58th in women’s league competition. The top male scorer of the evening was Tom Fehringer, who had 230, 200, 220—650 for Electronic Laboratory in the Parkway Recn.

When world light-heavyweight champ Gus Lesnevich (above) came out of the service recently, he flattened Oregon's highly-touted Joe Kahut with a right to the jaw in the first round. Tonight at Madison Square Garden he makes his second start, opposing lusty Lee Oma of Detroit. Plus a noble right cross, rugged, Lesnevich packs a chunking left that has authority. In facing Lesnevich, “Loose-leaf” Lee Oma seeks his seventh straight win, Few heavys fight as Oma does. Carrying his hands at his sides, he lashes out with sizzling left jabs and hooks, follows through with solid rights. On defense he 1s hard to nail.
