Brown Sets Sights On New “State Record =
yl PN
tHe INDIANAPOLIS TIMES
Has Only Long: -Shot Chance, However, in Last Two Games
By JAMES E. WALTERS, United Préss Sports Writer’ Harold Brown of Evansville collége, with the state collegiate basket ball individual scoring title all but stored away in his traveling kit, today set his sights on a new state scoring record. The Indiana record of 461 points was established earlier in the decade by Gus Doerner, Evansville’s first and only All-American, Brown now has 403 ‘points and only two games left to play, one of them against rugged Indiana State tonigh. at Terre Haute. The other is against Indiana Central a week from tonight, Brown would have to average 2) points a game to tie Doerner's mark. ‘That probably is out of the range of the Evansville forward, but he has shown that he is capable of that style of performance. Last’ week, for example, he tossed in 26 points against Anderson to virtually sew up the title. Janisch Bidder His closest cormpétitor, John Janisch of Valparaiso, still ‘has an St side it » ship.
—151, and total free throws—101. Four players are bat for the No. 3 position, currently held by Leo (Crystal) Klier of Notre Dame. Teammate Vince Boryla has 272— four less than Klier. So does John Wallace, who has smashed all Indiana university scoring records this season. - Here are the top 20 scorers (x denotes season ended):
