Emergency Setup Asked of VA at Ft. Wayne.
The Indiana American Legion to‘day asked the U. 8. Veterans’ Administration to establish an emergency hospital at Baer army air | field, Ft. Wayne. Department Adjutant: William E. Sayer sent a telegram to National Rehabilitation Director T. O. Kraabel of the Legion in Washington, urging him to seek use of the Baer field hospital on a temporary basis, Sayer asked the use of the hospital “to afford emergency hospital beds for sick and disabled veterans in Indiana.” Sayer said that there was a waiting list of 345 ex-servicemen at the polis Veterans Administration facility who were approved for hospital admission. Monthly social security benefits which totaled more than $1,750,000 a year were being paid to residents of seven Indiana counties at the
end of 1945, Fred E. Nicodemus, acting manager of the Indianapolis field office of the social security board said today. Counties receiving the benefits at this rate were Marion, Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson and Shelby.
