Homicide Detective Leo Hoedl said that Ray Kirkpatrick wrote a farewell note to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rupert Kirkpatrick, yesterday, explaining he was running away from home “because the marines rejected me because of bad eyes.” After finding the note, Ray's father, an unemployed carpenter, and his mother, who works at a downtown cafeteria, began an immediate seéirch along adjacent highways.
